Alright, let's get some discussion going friends. I know there are a few of you who have actually read and finished this book. I want to talk about it! My first question is, what do you think the title of the book means? Why do you think Zafon called it The Shadow of the Wind? I honestly haven't decided what I think about it, so this really is a question I am wanting to hear what you all think...

I read this question before I'd finished the book, so as I finished this question actually came into my mine often.
ReplyDeleteI think there can be the obvious answer of Daniel having found the book The Shadow of the Wind. That and him trying to fine Julian the entire book and that being the influence and desire for Danial to find him.
I think as we find out more about Julian from the last letter left (I can't remember the women's name right now) to Danial, and find out about the burning and all of that to me that could contribute to the title as well. Julian became a shadow of the night, and often like the wind would come and go and no one saw him, but sometimes his presence was felt (maybe only by those who knew of him, and that he was always somewhere close to them, if that makes sense).
Then, the last line in the book was that Danial and his son were walking and the last line of the book is the title. Maybe this is out there, but it could also refer to any of us as we go about doing things that only certain people know we do. I think at times we all can become Shadows of the Wind in our little ways. Even if we're not sneaking around at night, lol.
I don't really have a set answer - I think it means lots of things. Shadows can be both a sign that the sun is near or that something horrifying is lurking. Both meanings apply to our characters. Everything seems to happen in veiled portions - as if the shadows slowly life so that Daniel can see clearer, but just as he gains newer understanding, new shadows descend.
