You've read the pages. You've felt the anticipation, the unease, the fear. Now tell us your overall reaction to Shadow of the Wind. We are dying to know what you think.
I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was well-written and easy to read. I liked how the mystery was always unfolding, but at the same time I feel like it's hard to say what it all means. At the same time the mystery was unraveling a new layer of suspense was added. :) It made me think a lot about the power of words, books, relationships, jealousy, love, hate, family, history, forgiveness, and guilt.
I finally finished the book, lol. I enjoyed reading it. Towards the end I was surprised how much I was mixing up Julians life and Daniel's lives from what I'd read. I really had to concentrate to make sure I was thinking of the right person. I agree with Heather about the story always unfolding and how that really added to the book. The mystery was there, but there always seemed to be a little bit more depth to everything.
I finished the book a while ago but forgot to keep checking the website for when the discussion started! I loved the book. It was so beautifully written, an exciting and captivating story that kept me guessing, and had me so nervous at one point I had to throw the book across the room! And I LOVED how redeeming it was at the end-- Daniel's goodness shone through during his search for Julian when he wanted to protect the book instead of cash in. Daniel's goodness inspired Julian and gave him a newfound hope in the world and in himself so that he eventually goes back to writing at the end. I loved that! Daniel, in essence, allowed Julian to take his life back.
I love that Mags threw the book across the room. I love (like what Kara mentioned) the parallels between Daniel and Julian. And as Heather said - the way that the plot unfolded was fantastic. I found myself completely lost in the characters' stories as time went on - there was so much depth. Whether it was Julian's mother or Daniel's father. The ties to the Fumero in the and in the present were so haunting. I love that suspense.
